Title

A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE NOMINATION OF DEB HAALAND FOR SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has determined that in order to preserve the inherent sovereign rights of the Cherokee people, to preserve indigenous cultures within the United States of America, and enlighten the general public toward a better understanding of Indian people, do hereby establish and submit the following resolution; and

 

WHEREAS, House of Representatives - Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico has been nominated for the cabinet position of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior by the President - Elect Joe Biden; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation supports the nomination of Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico as a nominee for the cabinet position of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior and urges the Senate to confirm.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby supports the nomination of Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico as the nominee for the cabinet position of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior.
