A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A SPECIAL GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE CHEROKEE NATION CHILD CARE PROGRAM

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the goal of the Cherokee Nation Child Care Program is to provide quality child care and development to Native American children;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Child Care Program is applying for a cash match in the amount of $183,222 to improve the quality of care and expand early education services to low-income children from birth to age three within the child care centers;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes an application for funding to the Community Action Project for the Child Development Center for child development services, and that Principal Chief, Bill John Baker and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said contract on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
