A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREEN COUNTRY PARTICIPATING AND ACCEPTING FUNDING FROM THE SEA RESEARCH FOUNDATION/MYSTIC AQUARIUM TO SUPPORT STEM MENTORING FUNDED THROUGH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION (OJJDP)

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continuing government to government relationship with the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is the governing body of the Cherokee Nation; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is empowered, under the Constitution and Bylaws of the Cherokee Nation to promote and protect the health, peace, morals, education and general welfare of the Cherokee Nation, the communities and its citizens; and

WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of the Cherokee Nation the communities and its citizens is a high priority to the Cherokee Nation Tribal council; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice provides grant funds to establish and implement prevention and intervention programs for our youth; and

WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Club(s) of Green Country were selected as a site in Indian Country to apply and participate in OJJDP funding; and

WHEREAS, Our tribe and Boys & Girls Club(s) of Green Country will work with Sea Research Foundation/Mystic Aquarium to establish the delivery of STEM Mentoring services to youth; and

WHEREAS, Sea Research Foundation/Mystic Aquarium will provide our tribe and Boys & Girls Club(s) of Green Country with funding to assist in the implementation of the plans to include funding for staff, training and equipment; and
