A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHEROKEE NATION CLMAP PROGRAM, TO APPLY FOR TRIBAL HERITAGE GRANTS ON BEHALF OF CHEROKEE NATION TO DOCUMENT ORAL HISTORY AND CULTURAL TRADITIONS

Body

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation supports the proposed Tribal Heritage grant project of documenting oral history and cultural traditions by using grant funds to promote cultural preservation;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes an application for funding to the U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service for these purposes; and that Principal Chief, Bill John Baker, and/or his designee is authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said application on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
