A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A BALLOT QUESTION ON A CONSTITUTION CONVENTION AND SETTING A SPECIAL ELECTION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Article XV, Section 9, of the Constitution of Cherokee Nation states that the question of whether or not to call a constitution convention must be submitted to the citizens of Cherokee Nation at least once every twenty (20) years at a general or special election;
WHEREAS, in accordance with Article XV, Section 2 and Article XV, Section 9, the Council of the Cherokee Nation, will cause the question of whether or not to call a constitution convention to be submitted to a vote of the Cherokee people.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that a referendum question of whether or not to call a constitutional convention should be submitted to the duly qualified and registered voters of the Cherokee Nation by placing such question on the ballot during a special election for that purpose, to read as follows:
REFERENDUM ON CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION
Article XV, Section 9, of the Cherokee Nation Constitution states that the question of whether or not to call a constitution convention to propose adopting amendments, revisions, alterations, or a new constitution shall be submitted to the voters of the Cherokee Nation at least once every twenty (20) years. Therefore:
