Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is the governing body of the Cherokee Nation;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is empowered, under the Constitution and Bylaws of the Cherokee Nation to promote and protect the health, peace, morals, education and general welfare of the Cherokee Nation, and the communities of its citizens;

WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of the Cherokee Nation the communities its citizens is a high priority to the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council;

WHEREAS, the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) provides grant funds to establish and implement programs for our youth;

WHEREAS, 4-H of Oklahoma (with grant sites in Tulsa, Hughes, and Cherokee Counties) were selected as a site in Indian Country to apply and participate in OJP funding;

WHEREAS, 4-H of Oklahoma will work with OJP to establish the delivery of services to youth;

WHEREAS, the OJP will provide 4-H of Oklahoma with funding to assist in the implementation of the plans to include funding for staff, training and equipment;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the communities for 4-H of Oklahoma to participate in the OJP funded programs;

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION TRIBAL COUNCIL, and hereby authorizes 4-H of Oklahoma to participate in and accept OJP funds on behalf of the communities to support these programs.
