A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO HUD FOR AN ICDBG GRANT; APPROPRIATING MATCHING FUNDS AND CERTIFYING ADHERENCE TO PUBLIC HEARING REQUIREMENTS

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United Sates of American; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation citizens have needs that may be addressed by the programs eligible for funding under ICDBG; and
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation is desirous of making application for four projects including: 1)Head Start Center renovation in eight centers; 2) Career Services Economic Microenterprise project: 3) COTTA green retrofit of four community buildings; and 4) Handicap Accessibility retrofits to homes in Sequoyah County; and
WHEREAS, these are projects that respond to tribal priorities to benefit tribal citizens;
NOW BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION THAT the Council does appropriate the twenty percent match specified in the HUD point criteria of $200,000; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION THAT the requirements for public hearing have been met and comments considered in preparation of the application; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION THAT the Council does recommend to the Principal Chief that application be made to HUD for the ICDBG projects specified/
