A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA STUDENT AND CHEROKEE CITIZEN SAM BRADFORD
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Sam Bradford is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a student at the University of Oklahoma, maintaining a 3.95 grade point average;
 
WHEREAS, Sam Bradford is the quarterback for the University of Oklahoma football team (Oklahoma) and has played an integral role in the 2008 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) national championship bid;
 
WHEREAS, Sam Bradford is the fifth Oklahoma football player and first Cherokee citizen to win the Heisman Trophy, the most coveted and prestigious college football award;
 
WHEREAS, Sam Bradford has been recognized for his exemplary character and leadership on and off the field and for serving as a role model to all Cherokees.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Principal Chief, the Deputy Principal Chief, the Council and all the citizens of this great Nation hereby commend and congratulate Sam Bradford for his outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments, his contributions to the University of Oklahoma, and his representation of all Cherokee citizens.
